Weekday Groups

Altofts Methodist Church holds a variety of groups throughout the week and a number of social events throughout the year, details of some are below. See the calendar for dates of the events.

Covid-19 - Family Quiz

In the interests of keeping you sane during the lockdown, I have had a go at producing a quiz for you to do. If nothing else, my attempts at trying to video myself, will give you a laugh. A shining example of BBC production values it is not!

The quiz takes the form of a video that lasts just under half and hour. There are 40 questions. You can either write your answers (numbered 1-40) on a sheet of paper or by downloading and answer sheet from the 'Quiz Answer Sheets' folder below.

Once you have completed the quiz, email your answers along with your name or names to tomferg80@gmail.com.

The dealine for Family Quiz 1 is 8th May.

Although the quizzes are just for fun, some of you might wish to make a donation to All We Can, the Methodist Relief and Development Charity, who are working with poor communities across the world dealing with Covid-19. Imagine what it would be like to try to keep safe in cramped, overcrowded housing with no running water and no income. If you feel would like to make a donation to All We Can please  go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/altoftsmethodist-allwecan.

The quiz is available here: https://youtu.be/w9f4_ef0NwY

Please feel free to share the quizzes with others.

Thank you.

Womens' Friendship Group

We first formed over 50 years ago as a Young Wives Group. We meet on the second Tuesday in each month with a varied programme throughout the year to suit all ages and tastes. This includes speakers on all kinds of subjects, a beetle drive, meal out and members’ night. We raise money for church and various charities by holding an annual Strawberry Fayre, and a Carol Evening on the first Tuesday in December. The collection from this goes to Martin House Hospice at Boston Spa. We have 33 ladies on our membership list and average 27 at each meeting – but there is always room for more.

Indoor Bowls

The indoor bowls club formed in August 2005; there were nine people attending. Since then we have grown to twenty members; we have up to eleven players on a Tuesday evening and up to fourteen on a Thursday morning. However only twelve can play on the three mats that we have, but it evens out usually due to members missing for one reason or another. Not only does playing bowls provide exercise, it also gives a social aspect when we break for coffee & biscuits. We also have a selection of players who compete against Central Methodist Church in Pontefract for the “Centofts” trophy. We alternate every three months between playing at Altofts and Pontefract.
